Wanted to share a teaching warm-up that I've used in GFG that can be used in any Sunday School room, youth group lesson or other group activity you are doing.
The idea is to start each lesson with a thought provoking question and give the kids time to think, journal and respond. In GFG the girls get time to write quietly in their journals to respond to the question. This isn't something they have to share out loud; it's used more as a time of reflection on their week.
My biggest fear is that kids are not taking what they are learning in our churches and applying it to their lives. How does this Bible story affect my life? How does this verse apply to me?
By making kids think about how they see God in their life it takes the conversation to a personal level. I challenge you to take the conversation to a personal level!!!
Instructions:
1. Have the kids grab a pencil and paper (if you can start a notebook for each child, I highly recommend that!)
2. Choose one question to ask the kids.
3. Set a timer and play some music. Give kids a chance to quietly write.
4. When timer rings give the kids an opportunity to share what they've written. Get a conversation going! We have gotten into the BEST conversations from these "simple" questions.
A few questions to get you started:
**Write about your week. How did you see God in your week? Underline anywhere God showed up. If you didn't see him in your week...why?
**Do you have a prayer life? How is it? If you don't...why?
**How often are you hearing from God?
**Do you have a quiet time and work on a devotional and/or read your Bible? What is God teaching you in your quiet time? If you aren't doing this, what's stopping you?
Give these a try or create your own. LOVE to hear any you have created as well!
Lea :)
